My Polite Son

Please and Thank You were not phases Andy and I tried to teach Caleb. Consequently there were many kids his age that could say please months ago while Caleb went through various alternatives such as "Need it," "Want it," "Have (Hab) it." However about a month, maybe a little more, ago we were at Jasper's house (Caleb's friend) and Jasper gave him a toy to play with that Caleb wanted. He said, "Thank you" or "Thanks" I can't remember which. I was talking to Jasper's mom, Kaedra, but looked up when I heard him say it. I was so pleased and surprised. It was the first time he had said thanks and he used it so appropriately and without any coaxing. It was really cool. I started praising him and being obvioulsy pleased with him whenever he said "thank you" or "thanks" after that, that he started saying it all the time and it is so cute!! He will hand something to you and say, "thanks" and he will happily say thanks when given desired objects. I LOVE it!

Andy uses please when interacting with Caleb more as a means of begging than anything:

Caleb has the remote control,

Dad: "Can I have the remote control Caleb?"

no response

Dad: "Please?" In a very nice, inquisitive, and ever so slightly plaintive manner.

Recently Caleb started saying please appropriately as well. I know he learned it from Andy and interactions similar to the one above. It's funny to hear him say please. Sometimes it's a bit whiney but other times it's just very polite and he sounds like such a well mannered kid. It's so funny what he picks up on from example and observation.

Yesterday he finally said "you're welcome." Of course, I don't know if anyone besides his mother, or possibly father, would be able to understand his form of "you're welcome," but he said it none the less. And yes, I thought it was adorable!

I love my son.

That is very cute!! Ethan can sign please and thankyou and i always think it's so cute when he signs thankyou to people...I have to ask him to, he doesn't do thankyou without being asked but most of the time if i tell him to say thankyou he will sign it. Caleb sounds so cute and smart! children make life so much better I think.and hard, but in the end they are worth it.
