Adventures in Boise

Here is Caleb on a paddle boat in Julia Davis Park in Boise. We rented a different one--one that looked like a pelican. Annika loved the ducks and geese.

The fountain at the Grove in downtown Boise. It wasn't quite hot enough to make the kids really want to be in the fountain. Annika was scared and didn't like it, but Caleb would run around the water if not through it and loved to watch some of the other kids play.

I just love the Zoo. So we made a trip to the zoo on family day (lower rates and lots of people :)).

Annika LOVED this slide. The first time around I went down with her, but she is really good at going down slides and so after that, I would climb up with her, slide down myself and then she would wait for me to tell her to come down and she would come down. She was such a little munchkin compared to the other kids and there were so many comments about how cute it was to see this little "baby" sliding down the slide by herself. For the record, the only time she fell at the bottom was the time I was trying to catch it on video.

As usual we saved the sandbox for last. If we don't save the sandbox for last all the kids want to do is play in the sandbox. This picture is like one I posted of Caleb at this age playing happily in the Zoo Boise sandbox.

Caleb's first skinny dipping experience

I do not have pictures to go with this post for obvious reasons. Today we went on a walk after Andy had headed to Boise State to work on preparation for the class he teaches. We walked past Crane Creek country club and I was thankful that I was not part of that scene and glad I'm not a golfer. Then we stopped at Highland Elementary School to play at the park there. Andy says this school is perhaps the best public elementary school in the state. It could be. It looks like a really good school. They do all sorts of things with the kids. Anyway, we played for quite a while and had lots of fun. There is a creek that runs behind the school (thus the name of the country club), and we decided to go investigate it. It is so beautiful!!!!

Okay, back to topic. There was a little place where the kids could throw rocks into the stream. I really wish I did have pictures of how pretty it is. I will try to go back and get photos. Annika sat and played in the dirt forever. Caleb immediately wanted to go wading. It was really shallow water. Miley (Andy's Border Collie) was going crazy running around and maybe she gave Caleb the idea. So he waded for a while. Then he wanted to take off his clothes and get in. It is rather secluded, being down in a pretty little gully and surrounded by lots of vegetation. So why not? He took off all his clothes and sat down in the very cold water. Then he went on his belly. It was seriously something I hope I remember for always and why I'm writing about it on this blog. After lots of running around naked (luckily no one came by--but not that it's indecent for a three-year-old) we went on an "adventure" across the little bridge. Happily, Caleb was not afraid to walk across the log bridge and we entered a fairy land. Seriously, so beautiful! Caleb and Annika picked me presents of leaves and flowers and we walked down the trail. It would have been much more pleasant without Miley tugging with all her might on the leash, but it was still wonderful. I hope to go back.

Helping Dad with the deck

Andy had the deck mostly done when we got here on Saturday, but luckily there was still a little work left so Caleb could watch Dad and Connor (neighbor kid who is helping on the deck) work. He loves it! When we bought the house the deck was not kid friendly and we wanted to redo the deck. We got estimates from a couple contractors using both wood and TREKS (or whatever). The lowest bid was about $7000. Andy did it for a little over $1000 reusing the wood and learning how to build a deck at the same time. He did a really good job. The neighbors are so impressed. It is now more or less kid safe (still tools around but no holes for kids to fall through) and it looks really good. We may help with the painting while we are here.

Second Cousins

One of the nice things about moving back to Utah is how close I am to lots of family. However, even being close, and driving to Park City regularly, I haven't spent all that much time visiting my cousins and their kids. On this trip to Park City in May, we stopped and visited my cousin Cathy Ann on the way there and C-bass on the way home. Jeep rides and toys with new friends on the way home. Long awaited monster truck video game playing with C-bass. Cathy Ann's kids are so cute and I loved seeing them and visiting with her. Caleb still talks about her five-year-old son Ethan who was really good on his bike and he says that he's going to ride as fast as Ethan when he is five.

Okay, I don't remember what was going on this day, but really, they usually wear helmets. :)
